Welcome to
The Almanac Care Record
The Almanac Care Record is a simple tool that lets caregivers build and maintain a comprehensive health profile for their care recipient — medications, diagnoses, baseline functioning, care contacts and more. It works on your web browser, both on and offline, and creates printed summaries you can keep with you for quick reference. It is designed to be brought to appointments, shared with fellow caregivers or emergency providers, and updated as circumstances change.
How to Download & Open Your Almanac Care Record
Step 1 — Download the file
Click the Download button. The file will save to your Downloads folder. It may take a few seconds.
Step 2 — Open the file
Go to your Downloads folder and double-click the file called AgingAlmanac-CareRecord1.html. It will open in your web browser, just like a website, but it runs entirely on your device. The file works without an internet connection once downloaded.
On a Mac: The file will open in Safari by default. You can also right-click it and choose "Open With" to use Chrome or Firefox instead.
On a Windows PC: The file will open in your default browser — usually Chrome or Edge.
On a phone or tablet: The app is not recommended for use on mobile at the moment. If you are downloading the file on a phone, email it to yourself for use on computer.
Step 3 — Choose a password
The first time you open the html file, you'll be asked to choose a password. This encrypts your record so only you can read it. Pick something memorable, because there is no password retrieval option if you forget it. You can reset the html file if you forget your password, but this will erase your data.
Step 4 — Save your work
Your record saves automatically as you type, but your data is stored only in the browser where you opened the file. If you open the html file in a different browser or on a different device, it will appear blank. Keep the html file somewhere you can find it on your computer and do not clear your browser history unless you have a back-up, or your record will be lost.
We recommend that you use the Backup & Restore feature in the app to protect your work and move your record between devices. This gives you a copy of your data in a JSON file that you can store in the cloud, email to yourself, or keep on a USB drive so you can access your data on any device. You can restore your data by opening the html file with the password you used when you created the back up, and clicking restore - you then upload your JSON file. The JSON file is your data, the html file is the tool for viewing and changing your data.
Step 5 - Print your Record
Once completed, your Almanac Care Record has options to print the full record, a one-page emergency information sheet, or a handy medication schedule.
We recommend that caregivers print their records to take to appointments, and share with fellow caregivers or emergency providers. Remember to update your record as circumstances change.
